Our vision for young people

64-0322 – Possessing The Gate Of The Enemy After Trial
See, the rich young ruler was a member of the church. See? He asked Jesus what could he do to have Eternal Life. He never accepted It. He walked away. What a foolish thing for that young man to do. Don’t take his place. You remember the last time he was identified? A little later, he prospered. He got richer. He got to a place till even his barns bursted. But then we find his last identification, in hell, flames tormenting. Don’t, don’t let that happen to you. Accept Christ. You young people, you young girls, young boys, just at the turning of life, please do that.

We hold the belief that when children are raised in a Christian home with parents who love God and obey His Word, the church and its ministry’s job blends with that by teaching God’s Word and supporting their spiritual needs and welfare.

While we work to do this, we realize that our young people desire fellowship, recreation and enjoyment with their peers and they need leaders and mentors who lead by example and reinforce the efforts of the parents to help instruct the children while offering support and guidance as they begin their Christian journey and transition from childhood to adulthood.

It is a sincere responsibility of Apostolic Tabernacle’s Youth Ministry to do our part to provide them a healthy and nurturing environment and insure that their innermost needs are met as we support their needs for fellowship and recreation.

How we keep in touch!

WhatsApp group – “13+ Unmarried Youth”
All of our young people are invited to participate in this social media platform where events are announced, and young people can share testimonies or something they find uplifting or helpful to their friends. This is monitored by all of the Youth Ministry Team and we take down any postings that are not deemed to be beneficial. We do ask that before any events are advertised or posted, that they first be sent to Bro Tim or Sis Faith to ensure the dates or details don’t create a conflict with other plans. Church-sanctioned events are put together by the church’s Youth Ministry Team and align with the standards and goals of the church and provide the support and supervision needed for the welfare of all involved.

What We Do Together

Monthly Bible Studies

On the first Friday of each month at 7:00pm, we have a Bible study for the young people 13 and older. We encourage them to bring their Bibles and their questions or comments about the Word of God. It’s usually held at Bro Tim and Sis Faith Cross’s home, but it can be hosted by anyone whose home can accompany 15-20 young people. We’ve learned that a relaxed atmosphere is key to keeping these meetings engaging and edifying!

Monthly Fun activities

We try each month to host a fellowship event for the young people of Apostolic Tabernacle and sometimes we open it up to their friends, family or other believers from the area. Sometimes it’s Christian skate night or we’ll rent a gym building for volleyball, basketball, and corn hole or ping pong. In the summer months it can be a hiking trip!

June Revival Meetings Youth Events

During our annual meetings (usually in the month of June), we’ll invite our young people and any visitors for the meetings to participate in events planned for them on Friday afternoon. We also have a Saturday morning Youth Service with food and fellowship afterwards.

Event Types

The events are categorized as follows and the decisions about whether events are open or closed are made by all of the leaders together based on various criteria that determine what’s most beneficial.

  • Drop-off events – At these events, we have plenty of supervision, but due to space limitations or limited food, drinks, and snacks, we ask parents to drop off their children and pick them up when the event finishes.
  • Open events – Occasionally, we will invite a special guest and invite as many young people from the area as possible to participate. The age ranges still apply but we welcome the young people to invite others who normally wouldn’t get to participate.
  • Closed events (only for Apostolic Tabernacle youth) – This is the category our Monthly Bible Study falls in for two reasons:
    • We find that when the children are together with their peers, they feel comfortable sharing their experiences and testimonies without being “in the spotlight” or around people who may not understand where they’re coming from.
    • Sometimes we deal with subjects like courtship, choosing a companion, or matters that pertain specifically to children who call Apostolic Tabernacle their home church and look to its pastor for their spiritual guidance. We don’t want to influence others who fellowship elsewhere in a way that would counter how their pastor is led by the Holy Spirit. We respect the sovereignty of the local assembly as this is a Biblical precept.
  • Self-pay events – When the weather is favorable, we’ll plan weekend outings for things like snow tubing, whitewater rafting, camping trips or a multi-day trip with out-of-town stays. Some of the Youth Camps that other churches host are self-pay events where Apostolic Tabernacle doesn’t offer help with transportation, supervision or accommodations.

** It is important for all parents and all attendees to understand the following: If you enroll and agree to participate in an event where pre-payment is needed and/or a group rate is set, anyone who drops out or chooses not to participate or attend will still be expected to pay the agreed amount. This insures that the amount that everyone has agreed to doesn’t change or increase due to people who were committed to go backing out or being absent. If you can’t go but were already signed up, you may have the option of finding someone to go in your place, but that will be decided with a youth leader’s consent and the amount that was agreed to will still have to be paid. The reason we’ve had to implement this is due to people backing out and then others had to pay “out-of-pocket” to keep the entire group from having to pay amounts they weren’t prepared for. Please see Bro Tim Cross if there are questions about this.

  • Age ranges and age range exceptions – We set the age range for our Youth Events at ages 13 and up. If an event is posted and age ranges are listed, it is expected that everyone in attendance will respect the listed age ranges. For our annual meetings in June, it has been agreed by the youth leadership that as long as a young person’s birthday falls in the calendar year of the event, they can opt to join the older youth group if they wish to. If their birthday has already come that year and they’re too young, they’ll be asked to remain with other children in their age range. Exceptions to this can be requested but will need to be approved by Bro Tim or Sis Faith (they are most often granted to visitors who come from other places or have extenuating circumstances).

Our Team of Youth Workers

Bro. Tim Cross – Youth Leader
Sis. Faith Cross – Youth assistant
Sis. Kimberly Bennett – Youth assistant

Sis. Jamie Cockman – Youth assistant
Sis. Heather Cross – Youth assistant
Sis. Tammy Burgess – Youth assistant

Bro. Paul Burgess – Youth assistant
Bro. Daniel Cross – Youth assistant
Sis. Crystal Cross – Youth assistant

The youth assistants support all of the youth activities by providing leadership and support to all of the youth ministry efforts. While everyone contributes, some are especially good with planning, scheduling and coordinating, while others have proven to be faithful in helping with the logistics of hosting events for the youth. We all work together to insure the young people enjoy their time together and are given the supervision and protections needed to safeguard the shared interests of their parents and our church. We meet on a quarterly basis to choose and plan the events and we welcome input from the young people and their parents as to when, where and how events are held.
